We're spending our summer in British Columbia, with a few surprise visits to other parts of Canada too!
Spending the Day on Grouse Mountain
We're spending a full summer day on Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, British Columbia. We're starting our day with a hike up the challenging Grouse Grind, then we're doing some activities at the top of the mountain including the Grouse Zip Line and Mountain Ropes Adventure. We're also visiting the grizzly bears, watching the Birds in Flight show, and walking around the grounds.
Panorama Ridge Hike: Hiking to Garibaldi Lake and Panorama Ridge
We're hiking 30km or 18 miles through Garibaldi Provincial Park near Whistler, British Columbia to Panorama Ridge for stunning views of Garibaldi Lake and Black Tusk. The hike will take us past the shores of Garibaldi Lake so we can see the aquamarine water up close, then higher up to see views of the entire area.
This is a challenging hike, both in distance and in elevation gain. We did the hike in one day, but it can also be broken up over several days, camping in between. Camping requires reservations ahead of time. More info here
And for day hikes like the one we did, you must reserve a free parking pass ahead of time. For this hike you can reserve the Rubble Creek Parking Lot of Garibaldi Provincial Park here.
Wildfires in British Columbia & Yukon: Volunteering as Emergency Responders
We're spending a lot of our summer volunteering as emergency responders to support those being displaced due to wildfires. It's tiring and stressful work, but we're glad we can spend our early retirement years doing this.
We're taking our Honda Pilot Microcamper to Kelowna, British Columbia to volunteer as Emergency Responders in the Wildfire Evacuation Shelter.
Over 30,000 people have been displaced from there home due to the wildfires burning in the Okanagan Lake area of British Columbia. As emergency responders, we're heading into the smoke so that we can volunteer at the emergency shelter.
