About us.

Chris and Emilie

We're two mostly retired computer scientists in our 40s living in Vancouver, Canada. We met in university 25+ years ago and we've been together ever since! We love living an urban lifestyle downtown Vancouver and travelling for about half the year. We also like to use our technical skills to volunteer locally and abroad.

On trips involving a plane, we pack everything we need into backpacks and stay in hostels or longer-term airBnBs to save money, meet amazing people, and get a feel for the local lifestyle. For roadtrips, we have a microcamper that was carefully selected because we needed to balance having a vehicle that could fit in our condo's underground parking spot with one we can sleep in while camping or on roadtrips, while also being able to do a bit of soft-roading.

Thrifty travel is a big focus for us. Chris’s passion for fixing things and creative DIY projects and Em’s obsession with unconventional travel ideas and spreadsheets help us out a lot here! And just because we're mostly retired doesn't mean we don't have a ton of projects on the go. We still take on a bit of remote work and we're always learning and taking courses, with a focus on digital design, writing, and improving our Spanish.

Countries we've visited include Canada, United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, China and Hong Kong, Taiwan, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Hungary, Austria, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand.
